Atomic Games Relaunched |
|
Posted by: Sulla on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 - 05:43 PM |
|
This just in from PR. Looks like Atomic Games is back. Twenty years after pioneering the Historical Action video game category, Atomic Games is back. After working for three years behind a shroud of secrecy, the company is announcing today that it has returned to the video game sector to usher in a new breed of Historical Action video games. Atomic was quietly re-formed in 2006 by bringing together co-founders of Red Storm Entertainment with experienced talent from Bungie, Activision and Electronic Arts. Since then, the company has created a proprietary game engine for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Macintosh and Windows, and its 75-person team is now developing an innovative 3D shooter for one of the world’s top 5 video game publishers.“What’s always made Atomic unique is the way it translates real-life tactics and events into new kinds of games,” according to Peter Tamte, president of the new Atomic. Adds Keith Zabaloui, who founded Atomic in 1989, “Plus, the activities and missions that occurred in real life often offer more interesting content than anything someone could have made up.”

The Battle of Crete was a battle during World War II on the Greek island of Crete. The battle began on the morning of 20 May 1941, when Germany launched an airborne invasion of Crete under the code-name Operation Mercury mainly to protect the oil fields of Ploesti from allied bombing raids from airfields on Crete. The defensive force on Crete constisted of a mixture of Greek, New Zealand, Australian, and British forces known as Creforce. This mod will only focus on the Maleme-Chania sector of the battle.

TCP/IP Games Setup FAQ - HELP |
|
Posted by: Sulla on Sunday, November 16, 2008 - 12:08 PM |
Following on with FAQ's and re-posting of help articles, here is an old and still very much valid article written by Brad Ashe (aka Gunner) All of us at one time or another have had those pesky disconnections before, during or after playing a game. Nothing is more frustrating given the amount of time you waste replaying a scenario. Especially if you were winning or being beaten! It can even lead to claims of disconnecting on purpose. So, how does a person overcome the disconnect blues? The solution is close at hand. This is much the same and the procedure is just as easy for CC3 4 and 5. (I have included examples for Versions 3 & 5) but applies to CC 3 thru to CoI, WAR etc

Tactical Field Manual Or Tactics Never Grow Old |
|
Posted by: Sulla on Thursday, November 13, 2008 - 02:09 PM |
|
The following is an article posted on the old CSO site in 2003 by CSO_Gaskin, we have dozens of articles like this on using maps, mods and tools etc, we are now going to re-post them along with a plethora of new content from current modders and map makers etc. Hope you enjoy them and find them useful. Sulla "To succeed at any realistic warfare simulation, you need a comprehensive knowledge of the most effective tactics and methods that can be applied. Luck is also a major factor, but that cannot be taught over the internet, and skill is another fundamental requirement for victory, but that should come after gaining tactical knowledge and spending time practicising it. Therefore, This guide is prepared with the intention of bettering the skill of all CSO members and giving a good, in-depth range of strategies that can be applied when the circumstance calls for it."

Urgent - Server Fees / Donations |
|
Posted by: Sulla on Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 10:29 PM |
|
Hia All, We are still $102 from paying the server fees this month! It’s a few days at most before the server is taken down. TBH now I am unable to pay for the server myself, trying to find the funds each month is unreal. I am currently redesigning the site and trying to get CSO ready to take it into the next 10 years. I am leaving it to the community, if there is only room now for one site, then I will let this site die which will please many people. I am not going to beg for help to keep a 10 year old site online. Those who know me, know my financial situation and other stuff, which is too personal to go into here. Cheers - Sulla - aka Shaun

Strategy 3 Tactics Jim Martin attended GenCon this year and I took the opportunity to chat with him about his latest project,Close Combat: Wacht am Rhein. As the name suggests, the game will cover the Battle of the Bulge during the bitter winter of 1944/1945.Focusing primarily on US and German forces, this real-time tactical game has been heavily modified from the original Close Combat IV and V games.

CSO Site News - Updates - New Sections |
|
Posted by: Sulla on Sunday, September 07, 2008 - 01:40 PM |
Well after some time in hiatus, its time for CSO to come out and start doing what its always done best and thats evolve and grow with the community. First off, the Forums, CSO Main site and CC Wiki are all now back on line. The gallery is also now running. In the next few weeks we will be giving the site a new look, this will depend a lot on user input from you! We have already got a thread going on how the site should look and what people would like to see so visit the forums and check it out. First off we need to fix much of what has been let slide, the downloads badly need updating and checking and a lot of files already uploaded need linking in. Here are some of the ideas we are looking at. A lot more oganised H2H play, getting touranments going and using various mods and various CC versions, Mooxe over at TH/CSS has already agreed to use TH as the way of recording standings and who is up there ;) Regular articles on units and vehicles from history, to become a regular series. Please as this is YOUR site, comment and let us know what you would like! if there is any problem then please email myself or any of the admins or mods! What content would you like to see? - Sulla

Forums Back Online |
|
Posted by: Sulla on Monday, September 01, 2008 - 09:57 PM |
|
The forums are now back online, its taken all weekend and a not unstressed time at that, but we are now back up and running. We now have all latest patches, all passwords and other items changed, in fact everything has been pretty much secured. That said, if somone wants to hack your site, they can, you can just do the best you can! We lost around 400 users and 3 months of posts, but given the fact that they hacker had deleted all our users after sending them the almost obligatory porn email so we are lucky to have about 7500 users back in the DB. We also now have daily server backups running so things like this will be much simpler to fix in the future! Again, apologies to anyone who was caught or who was offended by the illicit hacked mailout! The forums are here: http://www.closecombat.org/forums/
Sorry for the delay and downtime guys! Cheers - Sulla

Forums Hacked - False Message Sent - Forums Down |
|
Posted by: Sulla on Saturday, August 30, 2008 - 04:33 PM |
Despite running the very latest version of VBulletin, our forums have been hacked. [AGAIN] I am taking the forums down until the problem is fixed and any issues resolved. In the past the finger has been pointed at CSO for not running the latest updates etc. This has now happened despite running the very latest updates on the software running on the site. Whoever is so set on hacking CSO, please get a life, this is getting old very fast! Another item the person/persons did was delete the forum user database. We are working on it and will get things back up and running as soon as possible, once the forums are secured. This points out the nature of online life and the people out there lurking and waiting to do damage, this is not limited to websites, but your own pc's so please ensure you have Firewalls and other AV etc running. For all our loyal users and for all those who have emailed their support, a huge thanks. To all our users I can only apologise for these morons who think this kind of thing is funny or get whatever it is they get from doing this! Regards - Sulla

Australia First Country To Ban Close Combat |
|
Posted by: Sulla on Tuesday, April 01, 2008 - 01:27 PM |
Comment by Sulla: In a major move an Australian Politician has pushed for Close Combat to be banned, resulting in a total ban in Australia of Close Combat. While games like Grand Theft Auto and many others are fine Close Combat an 11 year old wargame has been banned from sale. This is strange given the fact that at various times the Australian government has used Close Combat as a training tool and continue to use Games like VBS2 and Steel Beasts as army training tools. If these games are so addictive and so dangerous then surely using them for training the military has to be of similar danger? If the good Cr is talking in terms of wargames, realism and RSI as well as the problem of game addiction then surely his own countries government is putting his own military at risk of said RSI and addiction? Obviously this is fine as long as the good Cr gets his publicity! I personally think he should stick his neck in and get back under his shell and leave the good people of Australia alone. I lived in Australia for many years and the only thing that every Australian had to say about their own politicians (such luminaries as Keating and Howard) was that they were sick and tired of the huge salaries, never ending pensions and endemic corruption in their politicians, far more so than in any other western country and many Aussies have lived abroad and are far from insular! Now Read On for the actual article:
By Stephen Hutcheon, Louisa Hearn and David Braithwaite -
April 1, 2008 - Gold Coast Mayor and former Olympian Cr Ron Clarke is claiming the credit for stopping the Australian re-release of Close Combat a computer game that its critics say incites addiction and Carpal tunnel syndrome. The game was refused classification by the Federal Government's Classification Review Board earlier this week. This means the game cannot be imported, sold, demonstrated or hired in this country, making Australia the only country in the world where the game has been banned. New versions of the game was due to be released worldwide in the near future. Read on for the rest of the article.

CSO Info Portal Now Online |
|
Posted by: Sulla on Saturday, March 29, 2008 - 08:14 AM |
|
We have set up a new portal part of CSO to act as a repository of all things and info CC. This is a place the community can update mod info, update maps, list maps and mods etc. Essentially, we are aiming for a total portal with everything the community knows about CC, The Vesrions, AI, Mods, Mod makers, Maps, Map makers, History, Clans, Ladders, Tools, History of modding, in fact everything CC. This is a total community project and will rely on your input. We are looking for 1 or 2 people who can admin the site as sysops, editing entries where needed, fixing incorrect info etc. We have all the information as a community, lets actually get that informaton down in a very searchable, and usuable way. You can find the portal here: CSO Close Combat Info Portal. This is for you the community to build, so feel free, go ahead and have fun. Anyone who wants to act as a sysop, please contact me or any of the admins. Cheers - Sulla

CSO Is Back |

Posted by: Sulla on Thursday, March 27, 2008 - 07:37 AM |

Many of you will have noticed and some may not have noticed but that CSO has been very stale for a very long time. A lack of news, lack of articles and all the community that went around the site have been left pretty much to their own devices on and off for way too long. Well for some of you this will be very good news as CSO is back and there will be large amounts of news, articles, AAR's and much more. News on upcoming mods, features on who is who in the CC community, contests, news on what is happening now and in the future with CC, both old and new engine versions as well as casting some light on what has gone before, a peak behind the scenes! We will also be giving the site a new look and all and every comment is welcome on how to make the site and forums etc better! - Sulla

CSO DL Section Found Dead In Snowbank |
|
Posted by: High_Command on Tuesday, January 08, 2008 - 02:24 PM |
It was like after gaining 15 lbs on the holidays after
too much turkey and eggnog (Not together) the CSO DL section already under
PHP meltdown went outside like a drunk to pee in the snow and was found dead
in the snow the next morning.
Thankfully as it happens the Christmas tree collection by
the city dump was coming soon anyhow, so well chuck it in there and start
off fresh.
Yeah, I tired the cute approach, but there's no way around
it, the DL's section is dead. But thats fixable and the fact is were taking
the opportunity to look at revamping a few things since the time involved
is a big enough chunk to merit this. I personally feel its an opportunity
to make things better than before!
Until we get things sorted here for DL's, I forward DL seekers
to the Close Combat Series
website where Mooxe is more than happy to help in our time of need! (And will
no doubt remind me!)
Hey, after 12 years we just need a facelift on the old bitch!

Bulletin: New mod for CC5 by vonPatt |
|
Posted by: schrecken on Thursday, November 01, 2007 - 07:11 PM |
|
This Mod has been created to correct some small problems and improve others features, and, in H2H, to give BOTH players the chance to achieve Victory. This is because in the standard game it is not required for the American player to conquer almost all the maps in order of obtain a degree of victory, and so when in H2H both the players are at the same level of experience, for the German player is impossible to compete at least for a minor victory.
The modifications is to make this possible, although this is a game and so is fictional, it has been made without loosing sight of history, giving to the German teams more AT power and to the American side the upper hand in hardware.

VOTE ON FORUM LAYOUT!! |

Posted by: CSO_Sbufkle on Monday, June 05, 2006 - 07:50 AM |
About
2 months ago, the CSO forums modified its structure so that the mod
related forums were made into sub forums. As seen on the graphic in
the right, you have to click on the particular under a particular version
of CC to go to a mod forum.
I
have had both PM & e-mails commenting about this change. Recently
a few posts as well commenting negatively about this new layout. Some
prefer the new layout, some seem to want the old 'super forum' listing
everything on one simple page.
I
know bring the vote to those most important, THE ONES THAT USE THE FORUM.

have set up a CSO hosted web section all about the CC3 CCIMages file
