Australia First Country To Ban Close Combat

Comment by Sulla: In a major move an Australian Politician has pushed for Close Combat to be banned, resulting in a total ban in Australia of Close Combat. While games like Grand Theft Auto and many others are fine Close Combat an 11 year old wargame has been banned from sale. This is strange given the fact that at various times the Australian government has used Close Combat as a training tool and continue to use Games like VBS2 and Steel Beasts as army training tools. If these games are so addictive and so dangerous then surely using them for training the military has to be of similar danger? If the good Cr is talking in terms of wargames, realism and RSI as well as the problem of game addiction then surely his own countries government is putting his own military at risk of said RSI and addiction? Obviously this is fine as long as the good Cr gets his publicity! I personally think he should stick his neck in and get back under his shell and leave the good people of Australia alone. I lived in Australia for many years and the only thing that every Australian had to say about their own politicians (such luminaries as Keating and Howard) was that they were sick and tired of the huge salaries, never ending pensions and endemic corruption in their politicians, far more so than in any other western country and many Aussies have lived abroad and are far from insular! Now Read On for the actual article:

By Stephen Hutcheon, Louisa Hearn and David Braithwaite -
April 1, 2008 - Gold Coast Mayor and former Olympian Cr Ron Clarke is claiming the credit for stopping the Australian re-release of Close Combat a computer game that its critics say incites addiction and Carpal tunnel syndrome. The game was refused classification by the Federal Government's Classification Review Board earlier this week. This means the game cannot be imported, sold, demonstrated or hired in this country, making Australia the only country in the world where the game has been banned. New versions of the game was due to be released worldwide in the near future. Read on for the rest of the article.

CSO Info Portal Now Online

We have set up a new portal part of CSO to act as a repository of all things and info CC. This is a place the community can update mod info, update maps, list maps and mods etc. Essentially, we are aiming for a total portal with everything the community knows about CC, The Vesrions, AI, Mods, Mod makers, Maps, Map makers, History, Clans, Ladders, Tools, History of modding, in fact everything CC. This is a total community project and will rely on your input. We are looking for 1 or 2 people who can admin the site as sysops, editing entries where needed, fixing incorrect info etc. We have all the information as a community, lets actually get that informaton down in a very searchable, and usuable way. You can find the portal here: CSO Close Combat Info Portal. This is for you the community to build, so feel free, go ahead and have fun. Anyone who wants to act as a sysop, please contact me or any of the admins. Cheers - Sulla

CSO Is Back

Many of you will have noticed and some may not have noticed but that CSO has been very stale for a very long time. A lack of news, lack of articles and all the community that went around the site have been left pretty much to their own devices on and off for way too long. Well for some of you this will be very good news as CSO is back and there will be large amounts of news, articles, AAR's and much more. News on upcoming mods, features on who is who in the CC community, contests, news on what is happening now and in the future with CC, both old and new engine versions as well as casting some light on what has gone before, a peak behind the scenes! We will also be giving the site a new look and all and every comment is welcome on how to make the site and forums etc better! - Sulla

CSO DL Section Found Dead In Snowbank

It was like after gaining 15 lbs on the holidays after
too much turkey and eggnog (Not together) the CSO DL section already under
PHP meltdown went outside like a drunk to pee in the snow and was found dead
in the snow the next morning.
Thankfully as it happens the Christmas tree collection by
the city dump was coming soon anyhow, so well chuck it in there and start
    off fresh.
Yeah, I tired the cute approach, but there's no way around
it, the DL's section is dead. But thats fixable and the fact is were taking
the opportunity to look at revamping a few things since the time involved
is a big enough chunk to merit this. I personally feel its an opportunity
to make things better than before!
Until we get things sorted here for DL's, I forward DL seekers
    to the Close Combat Series
website where Mooxe is more than happy to help in our time of need! (And will
    no doubt remind me!)
Hey, after 12 years we just need a facelift on the old bitch!

New mod for CC5 by vonPatt

This Mod has been created to correct some small problems and improve others features, and, in H2H, to give BOTH players the chance to achieve Victory. This is because in the standard game it is not required for the American player to conquer almost all the maps in order of obtain a degree of victory, and so when in H2H both the players are at the same level of experience, for the German player is impossible to compete at least for a minor victory. The modifications is to make this possible, although this is a game and so is fictional, it has been made without loosing sight of history, giving to the German teams more AT power and to the American side the upper hand in hardware.created by vonPattAvailable in the CCV downloads section Downloads

VOTE ON FORUM LAYOUT!!

        About
2 months ago, the CSO forums modified its structure so that the mod
related forums were made into sub forums. As seen on the graphic in
the right, you have to click on the particular under a particular version
of CC to go to a mod forum.
        I
have had both PM & e-mails commenting about this change. Recently
a few posts as well commenting negatively about this new layout. Some
prefer the new layout, some seem to want the old 'super forum' listing
          everything on one simple page.
        I
know bring the vote to those most important, THE ONES THAT USE THE FORUM.
        Simply
          vote what you prefer IN
          THIS FORUM THREAD.

New Modding Help Section! CCIMages Templates Released!

        In
continuing effort to help the CC community prosper, the CSO has begun
a 'how to' modding section. This isn't something that can be set up
completely overnight, but we are working towards getting it as sold
          as possible!
        To
start things off, I have released my CC3 CCImages templates & also
have set up a CSO hosted web section all about the CC3 CCIMages file
& the templates of mine you can use to make new images for this
          file.

DJ Reviews THE FFL

FFL Club Review: by CSO CC DJ
           Dom, Manoi, Moloch...names most people
are quite familiar with. The FFL Club is home to these and many other
          dedicated Close Combat talents.
           FFL stands for "Froggies Fighter
League" - and in reference to the Forces Françaises Libres
(Free French forces of WWII). The clan was founded by FFL_Kklinkk in
1998 following the huge success of Close Combat 3. FFL quickly became
the biggest and the only (at that time) French CC clan.

in zipped PDF forms & are great quality. (Do we expect any less from

     There
has been some CC2 Dls added to the CSO. There will be an effort here at
the CSO to 'catch up' on the dls for this amazing version of CC. Look

        In the patch section you
          will now find patches 3.2 & 3.3.
        In the CCII Mods section
a new sub section has been created called 'Misc'. Here three dls now
added , a smoke patch, plus 2 graphic patches. (Plugin forms) Another
section for OMG (Operation Market Garden) Mod with 2 files has also
          been added.
3 CC2 maps have been added
to the map library as well!

325 Map Conversion Project

What have I been doing? I have
been getting that question a lot lately. I mean there's always that lame
excuse.. 'real life'. But hey, the last 8 years I have found time for
CC as part of my regular routine. So here it is, my latest project called
"325". Consider it an early Christmas present!

325 entailed me taking all of the CC3 map downloads from the CSO
& converting them to CC5 form.
Why? Well plain & simple, there are an increasing amount of
CC'ers who play CC5 avidly but have never played CC3 at all. One of the things
they miss out on is the wealth of maps available for CC3. This is especially
bad for modders of CC5 who are desperate for maps, yet in the CC3 library alone
there are nearly 1000 maps they could be able to use.
Well these maps were mostly NOT converted to CC5 form, although
a slim minority are. But even the current community CC3 to 5 conversion tool
doesn't account for many elements. Many CC3 maps are coded with Western Front
elements, the largest element file known to CC. In fact these maps don't even
work with all CC3 mods even that have far less than WF's element total. Well
I went out & completed the CC3 to 5 conversion tool & after a long process
you now find 915 CC3 maps converted to CC5 form!
There are a couple of things you need to know though...
