Anyone still play?

Postby GDS_Mits » Sat Mar 21, 2015 7:04 am

Nostalgia hit hard and I'm keen to get me a fix!

Kinda died off after the zone shut down all those years ago, I'm happy to grab whatever CC is fotm but I'd love a few games of III if possible!!

Hiya Mits,

Think there are a lot of players still for CC and the amount of mods has greatly improved, as has the titles available of CC out there.

I play, but not on the games that have been offered via Steam.

Good,

Its a good way to play and some of the new versions have a lot going for them.

There is also GameRanger and other ways of hooking up. H2H is still awesome fun and where all versions of CC really shine.

I must admit to liking CC3 - COI far better than 4 and 5. The campaign level was too awful to be enjoyable lol ;)

Actually? All, from CC2 onwards will work on CC2-5, must change install location. Below will give an example ok?

C:/Program Files/SSI/Close Combat Invasion Normandy

Default install in windows for CC2-5 is Programs(x86). Change manually to Programs and of course which ever hard drive (C:/D:/E: etc...)

Still playing when I have time. Still enjoy the mods a little more than the original games.

My ideal is to one day have the grandest of grand campaign simulations starting from blitzkrieg to 1945 with open ended outcome, depending on how the battles progress. One almighty what-if there :p

Some really great mods out there. Could try that with either cc3, or 5 with different mods.. Start with France 1940 in CC5.. Jump to the Eastern front.. Then Go to Africa for a campaign.. Back to Stalingrad and play a couple of campaigns..

Could make it last as long as you wanted really.

Here is a quick timeline for you :
Winterwar (Finland) CC5 1939
Meuse Crossing CC5 1940
Afrika 40-41 CC5 40-41
Kreta CC4 1941
Kharkov CC5 1942
Stalingrad CC5 1942
El Alamein CC5 1942
Stalingrad Der Kessel CC5 1942
Stalingrad Operation Circle CC5 1943
Ortona '43 (Italy) CC5
Karelia (not sure about the timeframe there) CC5
lotsa Normandy mods for CC5
Battle of the Scheldt CC5 1944
Battle of the Bulge
Rhineland '45 (being worked on)
Okinawa CC5
Berlin CC5
and I am sure I have forgotten some mods.

Enough to keep you occupied for the remainder of the year.

Thanks a ton Pete for taking to time to post an actual timeline.

Could really even take editing tool BGEdit and modify any existing mod into an almost entirely different mod. CC3-5 has QClone and BGEdit, which are tools that work easily to allow editing of the CC titles, unlike later versions which requires hard core modders, like yourself Pete :D

No problem. When I read Nietsche's post I immediately realized no-one had ever done an elaborate timeline of all the CC mods. There is actually free software available to create interactive timelines so if there is anyone interested in creating a timeline please do.

I never managed to get BGedit to do what it is supposed to do but that is mostly due to me being a total noob in a lot of things.
Me, hardcore modder? I have got only 2 mods under my belt and they took me 10 years :? . I mod because I don't like to watch tv ;-) .

That's a good idea, a mods interactive timeline.

I would be up for some games. Depends on version though lol!

So many mods still really never been done or need finishing.

Commonwealth Summer I always enjoyed playing. Cathartes and crew did an awesome job there! I have all versions, GtC was very good, but still hate the awful tacked on Strat layer ;)
