BoS45 update

Postby squadleader_id » Fri Mar 30, 2007 9:22 pm

CC5: Battle of Surabaya Progress report (December 2006 - March 2007):
1. New units artwork. British units almost done, WIP for the Indonesian units. We had no choice but to create custom artwork for the Indonesian teams because of lack of photos available. Since the Indonesian teams are represented using artwork, the British teams will also be represented using custom artwork.
Thanks to Sapa’s Battle of Berlin unit artwork for the inspiration!
[ScrnGadg.gdg and GameGadg.gdg].
2. New color scheme for various game screens.
[CCImages.pix, GameGadg.gdg and ScrnGadg.gdg].
3. New main screen, status screens, side select artwork (WIP).
[GameGadg.gdg and ScrnGadg.gdg].
4. New Teams, Force Pools and Battlegroups.
Thanks to all the modders of GJS, El Alamein, Okinawa, Khalkin-Gol, Stalingrad and Stalingrad Der Kessel for the base data.
Thanks to members of the Military sub-forum at Kaskus.us for the help on Indonesian units research, also for the enthusiasm and support. Also to members of the Kaskus Surabaya Regional sub-forum.
Thank you to Batara R. Hutagalung for his powerful insights on the Battle of Surabaya 1945 and the base data for the British and Indonesian OoB. Thank you so much for the electronic copy of your book.
Thank you to Pat Brennan from TOandEs@ yahoogroups.com for the base British OoB data.
Thanks to all at CCS and CSO for helping out!
[Vehicles.adb, Soldiers.adb, Alsteams.adb, GEteams.adb, BGroups.adb and FPools.adb].

Sounds awesome!

Give us a list of what commanders you need and we'll see what we can do.

Quick question, KNIL is the dutch east indies army. But what does NICA stand for?

NICA = Netherlands Indies Civil Administration.

Okay, I will post the list of British commander photos we need...Indonesian commander photos are also hard to come by...but I guess we'll have to rely on our own sources for this one :)

...and Philip...baso?

Woops I meant Bakso, surely there must have been someone selling bakso? :)

Most of this is totally new to people including myself. You must have done a lot of research what would be totally fantastic when you are ready to go is if you could put a document together that puts it in historical context and describes what actually happened.

Wow...that was easy :)
Thanks again, Nembo!

Philip, yup...we're planning to do that...but we're concentrating on the game first...hopefully after we've tackled map making...we'll have more time for the writeup.
Bakso sellers? :) There will be horse carts, becaks, javanese style boats on the rivers and some other Indonesian flavors to touch up the maps...but 1945 Surabaya (and most other major Indonesian cities) look a lot like European Cities...very different to the overcrowded cities nowadays.
BTW, people can always read the BoS45 wikipedia entry to get a feel of the battle.

Looks real nice Squad leader. The unit art is awesome I think. Just noticed one thing, I figure the paras are using Sten V, right? If so I do belive guns should have the a fore grip also.

See here.

As for the other commanders, I've had no luck, but I'll keep looking.

Thanks for the compliments, Nembo...

As for the Sten V, I think there are variants for the SMG like here:
http://www.legendary-arms.ru/images/28.jpg
http://www.secondeguerre.net/images/articles/armes/uk/pm/stenmark5_v.jpg
http://www.bayonetstrength.150m.com/Weapons/submachineguns/Sten_Mk5.jpg

Eaglereach (the data guy) made the guns graphics...and he chose the design based on the http://www.bayonetstrength data.

One more thing, we've just acquired photos of Mj.Gen. E.C.R.Mansergh and Brig. E.H.W.Grimshaw...from a rare source indeed...an Indonesian WW2 buff who created dioramas for museums.
We're still looking for the rest of the Commander photos...especially 23rd Ind Div commanders.

Actually, I think Eaglereach (BoS45 data guy) is right with the Sten V graphics:

I stand corrected on the foregrip.

As for Vice Adm. W.Patterson he commanded the HMAS Canbbera from 1938 to 1940, so maybe some australians have a book with a picture of him. He also commanded HMS King George V from 1940 to I think 1941

No probs, Nembo. I've seen lots of photos of reenactors using Sten MkV with the foregrip...but Eaglereach is anal about these things...so :)

I can't believe that 23rd Indian Division Commander photos are so hard to find :(

I must say, I generally prefer historical unit photos, but I really like your unit art. Especially the tanks! I hope this mod is finished, there is definately no mod out there quite like this one... Good luck!
