Gammons?

i got my **lone to work again (reinstalled win98), browsed thru the data, and stumbled over something new to me:
it seems that soldier types 49 and 50, both british regular army leaders, carry a gammon bomb. the row marked "special grenade" is filled with a 1 for them. this would mean that bren sections, rifle groups, even reserve teams wouldve some AT capability. this doesnt match my in-game experience.
im confused. somebody help me plz.

Re: Gammons?

search for a previous thread titled 'Gammon Bombs'.

Atilla stated that only AB teams carried them...

Speaking of Gammons, the book I am reading right now speaks of the Yankee Airborne using gammons. I don't remember ever seeing them in CC4. Does anybody else?

Type 82, or No. 82 Grenade.
Anti-Tank Grenade...

Basically it's a bag that has nearly 3 pounds of plastic explosives.
It was issued to British Airbourne troops, and yes, American paratroopers also used them. One of the most versatile weapons available to the British Airbourne, the amount of the explosives inside can be altered by the user. I've heard some veterans adding more explosives, while others decreased the charge to use the extra for brewing tea! 'Tis obviously a popular weapon...

Here's a site that has additional info...

Hello,

I believe the Commando Squad have Gammons, so that's why you may think regular troops had them. D\-

reminds me of the stories my grandfather told me. they used to half fill bully beef tin's with plastic and then top them up with nail's and stick a 5 second fuse on em cause the frag gremades they got given didn't do a good enough job"so they said anyway"plus his unit was rather annoyed at having there AT guns taken off them and given mortar's when they hit the islands so use to come up with all manner of weird ordanance. apparently a coconut is just as good as a beef tin and will drop tree's on a 20 foot area if just filled with plastic :D

I was playing a while ago H2H and a full rifle squad destroyed a mkiv-came out of some trees, not from 2 storey building and blew the beast to pieces. At the time i thought they must have gammon grenades and thats why you would take a rifle squad over a bren squad, for their anti-tank abilities(haha).

Re: Gammons?

bren sections have one gammon too. the leader has it.

Re: Gammons?

Damn-i lost a MKIV yesterday in a h2h game to a british rifle squad-the team was in a 1st floor building.i sent the mkiv alongside and next thing a huge explosion an'the tank is destroyed and all crew killed instantly-ive never even had a hint of a bren team doing anything like this.It was like the explosion you get when the jerry assault teams set off their anti tank explosive charges but not that pre explosion sound effect they have(you know what i mean?).

Re: Gammons?

yes they have them, but u need the squad to not be involved in close combat be4 trying to ambush the tank, coz they will use it against inf as well.

Re: Gammons?

I think the AT capability chart changes (the one with the effectivity at different ranges) from green to yellow once teams have used their Gammon bombs. Might just be imagining that but its a good way to tell whether they still have it in possession.
Harry
PS I have destroyed a MkIV before with an army rifle team from a 2 storey building.
