Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
Hauptmann, Kruger and me have begun to make a new mod for Close Combat V about the besieging of Budapest in 1944-1945.
We need the maps and photos of Budapest from this period of time. We have roughly order of battle of the German and Hungarian troops, but we have not the detailed OoB of the Soviet and Romanian troops. We gather the informations about various weapons and equipment used by the opponents during this battle. We are also looking for somebody who could record Romanian battle screams. We plan to add the Romanians in new submod, because there can be three different voices in this game (Hungarian, Russian and German). Everybody can join our team. We have Hungarian sounds almost completed. |

Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
I can provide Soviet TOEs and OOB...just give me some time.
Can also dig up Hungarian voices & weapon sounds if needed. D#c% Good mod idea! |
Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
Of course I need it all, however as I wrote above I have almost all Hungarian sounds, but perharps ten. How did you get the sounds of the Hungarian weapon? I browsed whole Internet and could not find them...
|
Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Barbarossa has lots of voices and weapon sounds for Hungarian, Russian, Romanian, Finnish, Italian, and German troops.
Let me know the specifics and I will provide. |
Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
Good to hear, I love the battles of the Eastern Front. Will this mod entail a certain month of the battles around Budapest like the encirclement, the German Counter-Offensive in 1945 or both?
|
Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
You know, its a problem, because there is a limit of the maps in Close Combat, so we decided to make a mod about the fights in the city only. Perharps we will need a graphician, because we do the first steps in the graphic programs. We want to avoid such a situation how in Red Storm Rising mod - there were no new maps and the maps for this mod have NOTHING common with the terrain in post-war Germany. For example there are too many bocages, hedges and too little urban terrains. No offense of course ;)

Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
This mod its only for fighting Allied and Axis troops in the siege of Budapest. Possibly, one operation for hipotetical situation - success of IV SS Armoured Corps which arrives to Budapest.
That is my proposition for the partition Axis troops in Budapest (on the basis of the Polish book: "Budapeszt 1944-45" of Marcin Sowa. He wrote this on the basis of the books of the Hungarian historians). 8th SS Cavalry Division ca. 8000 soldiers, 29 tanks and self-propelled guns, 30 cannons, 17 heavy AT guns. - Partition of 4 groups of SS cavalry with elements of battalions: armoured-reconaissance, artillery, engineers, AA, signal, tank destroyers 1 battlegroup - 15th SS cavalry regiment 2 battlegroup - 16th SS cavalry regiment 3 battlegroup - 17th SS cavalry regiment 4 battlegroup - 18th SS cavalry regiment Division commander - Brigadeführer Joachim Rumohr 22nd SS Cavalry Division 11345 soldiers, 17 tanks and self-propelled guns, 37 cannon, 14 heavy AT guns - Partition of 4 groups SS cavalry with elements of battalions: armoured-reconaissance, mechanized artillery, AA, tank destroyers, signal. 5 battlegroup - 52nd SS cavalry regiment 6 battlegroup - 53rd SS cavalry regiment 7 battlegroup -54th SS cavalry regiment 8 battlegroup - 55th regiment cavalry SS Division commander - Brigadeführer August Zehender 13th Panzer Division ca. 5000 soldiers (mainly crew: tanks, artillery and back services), 17 tanks (Pz.V and Pz.IV), artillery regiment - 35 mechanized guns (Hummel, Wespe), 8 heavy AT guns - Partition of 2 armoured groups, with th elements of battalions: reconaissance, motorcycle, engineers and the rest infrantry soldiers (66th and 93rd riflemen regiments and 13th riflemen brigade). 9 battlegroup - I/4 panzer regiment 10 battlegroup - II/4 panzer regiment Division commander - Generalmajor Schmidhuber "Feldherrnhalle" Panzer Division 7255 soldiers, 24 tanks, 38 cannons, 9 heavy AT guns - Partition of 2 groups panzergrenadieren with elements battalions: armoured, artillery (also mechanized) and 1 group reconaissance - armoured-reconaissance cars and motorcycles. 11 battlegroup - I/ Panzergrenadier-Regiment Feldherrnhalle 12 battlegroup - II/ Panzergrenadier-Regiment Feldherrnhalle 13 battlegroup - Panzer-Aufklarung-Abteilung Feldherrnhalle Division commander - Generalmajor Günther Pape (he was out of siege of Budapest, I don't now who commanded the rest of division in the city) 271st Volksgrenadiere Division ca. 1000 soldiers, 6 cannons, 4 heavy AT guns - Partition of 1 group, remains of division + penal battalion 14 battlegroup - 271st Volksgrenadiere Division Division commander - Oberstleutnant Kündiger 10th Infrantry Division (Hungarian) ca. 7500 soldiers (only ca. 1000 fighting), 25 cannons, 3 heavy AT guns - Partition of 3 groups of Hungarian infrantry with elements of battalions: artillery, AA, reconaiisance, engineers and signal 15 battlegroup - 6th Infrantry Regiment 16 battlegroup - 8th Infrantry Regiment 17 battlegroup - 18th Infrantry Regiment Division commander - colonel Sándor András 12th Reserve Division (Hungarian) ca. 4000 soldiers (only ca. 500 fighting), 26 cannons, 12 heavy AT guns - Partition of 2 weak groups of Hungarian infrantry with elements batallions: signal, cavalry, AA, engineers. 18 battlegroup - 36th Infrantry Regiment 19 battlegroup - 38th Infrantry Regiment Division commander - brigade-general István Baumann 1 st Armoured Division (Hungarian) ca. 5000 soldiers (only ca. 500 fighting), 3 cannons, 3 heavy AT guns, 7 tanks - Partition of 2 weak groups of motorized infrantry with elements rest of armoured regiment and battalions: armoured-reconaissance, artillery, AA, engineers. 20 battlegroup - I/2nd Motorized Infrantry Regiment 21 battlegroup - II/2nd Motorized Infrantry Regiment. We still have 3 battle groups ( there can be 27 battle groups in Close Combat). I propose to make a hipotetical operation – “IV SS Panzer Korps gains Budapeszt” and those 3 groups will remain for this corps |

This was one of the long forgotten battles on the eastern front, not given much attention by the west. Looking forward to it. |

Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
If you don't mind the help of another Hungarian...
1. 17. SS Cavalry Regiment became a part of the 22. SS Cavalry Div. in may, 1944.; renamed 54. SS Cavalry Regiment (so these SS Cavalry Divisions had only three cav regiments each). 2. About those things you wrote about 13. Panzer Div. After 1943 German mechanised infantry was called panzergrenadiers, and infantry was called grenadiers (there were some schützen regiments also). In the panzer divs ther were no infantry brigades after 1943, and motorcycle units were found in armoured recon battalions, if there were not enough armoured vehicles (there weren't). If you need help, just tell me, because as I see there are other mistakes in the OOB; and some problems with Hungarian spelling. ;) I'll look after exact info about these things. |
Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
The 4. Panzer Regiment's I. Battalion was used as an independent Panther-Abteilung since early 1944, so the Regiment had it's II. and III. Batts (filled up with the 2110. Panzer-Abteilung in september, 1944.) while fighting in Hungary.

Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
1. KG Erno should be called KG Billnitzer, because that was his first name. (Billnitzer Ernő, in Hungarian).
2. A German Panzer-Division usually organized 3 or 4 battlegroups from it's units. - if the armoured recon btl was used separately in the recon role, it was reinforced with some tanks/SP guns/TDs; called Schnelle Gruppe (this was more common). - one Panzergruppe: one tank btl (because armour shortages, almost all armour of the regiment late in the war); the one armoured pzgrenadier btl of the pzgren regiments (equipped with SPWs); the staff, SP inf. gun and SP AA gun companies of the regiment having the SPW battalion (these companies also Self-Propelled or mounted on SPWs); the armoured pzpioniere company of the pionier btl (equipped with SPWs); the SP howitzer battalion of the div's arty regiment; and sometimes the rec btl in the light pzgren role. - one or two inf BGs: the pzgren regiments (motorized, not mechanized!) reinforced with one artillery btl, a pioniere company, a pzjaeger company, AA units etc. each. Of course if ther weren't enough men or equipment, this was reorganized, but this was the most common way. |
Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
And therefore I wrote "this is my proposition". I don't speak perfect english, and therefore i must use help my translator - El Comendante. But I understand much.
So, my information abot OB SS Cavalry Divisions come from website "Feldgrau". Off course I must change uncorrected informations. Give my corrected OOB german and hungarian divisions. About 13 Panzer Division. In Budapest stay sad remainder of the division, tanks, some artillery, not much infrantry. I divide this artificially for two groups - I (first) and II (second), Panzer Regiment because in town stay mailny tanks. If it is necessary, El Comendante will translate this better. Off course we need help. We onlu just started work, and many informations (books and websides) are incorrected. Write alle mistakes in OOB. Billnitzer is changed. |
Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
Snoopy84, as a Hungarian could you find the maps (city plans) of Budapest during or before the war? We found several pictures of this city, including a few bridges (for example Szechenyi Lanchid), but its not enough...

Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
And now time to OOB allied forces arround Budapest.
I have data (OOB) some contradictory with a OOB Uberdave’s, and my OOB is still incomplete. If the thing in hand is cotradictory with Uberdave, I write this in bracket. Forces besiege Pest. (At first – 46 Army but in interesting us time this army cross Danube river and besiege Buda) 30 Independent Rifle Corps 25 Guards Division (Uberdave – shortage) 36 Guards Division (Uberdave – Rifle Division) 151 Rifle Division 155 Rifle Division 7 Romanian Corps 2 Infrantry Division 19 Infrantry Division 9 Cavalry Division 18 Rifle Corps 297 Rifle Division (Uberdave – Guards Division) 317 Rifle Division (Uberdave – Guards Division) also 66 Guards Division (subordinate probably to 18 Rifle Corps – as wrote Uberdave) 68 Guards Division (at first serely subordinate to 46 Army, later probably to 18 Rifle Corps – as wrote Uberdave) 337 Rifle Division (Uberdave – shortage) Elements tank brigades (probably from Gen. Plijew’s Rapid Group or from 27 Guards Army) Breakthru artillery division (probably 16) and AA artillery Together – ca. 67-70 thousands soldiers Forces besiege Buda 10 Guards Corps (later 2 divisions move to fight with SS Panzer Corps Otto Gill’s) 49 Guards Division 86 Guards Division 109 Guards division (Uberdaves OOB, I havent this in my source) 180 Rifle Division (Uberdave – Guards Division) 23 Rifle Corps 99 Rifle Division 316 Rifle Division 37 Rifle Corps 59 Rifle Division (Uberdave – Guards Division) 108 Rifle Division (Uberdave – Guards Division) 320 Rifle Division 75 Rifle Corps (this is enigmatic matter. This corps appear in my source two times, in map and one time in text but without details. I found him in webside too, in hungarian map of Budapest siege but without details too. Uberdave – shortage. I don’t know his divisions) Elements 2 Mechanized Corps (which? I don’t know. Whole Corps move later to fight with SS panzer Corps, Uberdave – shortage) Elements 18 Armoured Corps (I don’t know too which elements) 83 Marine Infrantry Brigade (probably in Csepel Island, Uberdave – in 18 Rifle Corps) Breakthru artillery division (probably 7 or 9) and AA artillery. Together – ca. 70 thousnads soldiers. Tanks brigades, breakthru artillery, AA artillery, marine brigade – ca. 40 thousands soldiers (Buda + Pest). Partition for battlegroups (proposition). One division – one battlegroup, so: 7 Romanian Corps – 3 battlegroups, 30 Independent Rifle Corps – 4 battlegroups, 18 Rifle Corps – 2 battlegroups, additional divisions arround Pest – 3 battlegroups, 23 Rifle Corps – 2 battlegroups, 37 Rifle Corps – 3 battlegroups, 10 Guard Corps (2 divisions in Buda) – 2 battlegroups, 75 Rifle Corps (probably) – 3 battlegroups, 2 Mechanized Corps – 1 battlegroup, 18 Armoured Corps – 1 battlegroup, Marine Brigade – 1 battlegroup. We have still 2 battlegroups for remain divisions of 10 Guards Corps, which fight with SS Panzer Corps in hipotetical operation. |
Re: Budapest 1944-1945 mod started
For a first look, the size seems correct. If the Tiger's width is 3,705m, the road on the bridge is around 5m (by the picture); I think thats OK. But the pavement looks a bit too wide, Don't know. Can you show a few men on the bridge to see this?
