"Reich on the Rocks" Campaign; Elite Tanks vs ArmeeGruppeSud

2 Attachment(s)
The Der Ost Front Campaign being played here is using the PC_AI (DOF_MAIN) version of the DOF "Reich on the Rocks" Campaign (the Xfiles), which I am playing H2H against my most feared human opponent "Elite Tanks" (Stuart :violent-s Rhue).

Rhuey, as we know him, lives in Normanville about 32km (20miles) away.
We play CC3 via modem connection, as it is an untimed local call. D#c%

Even though we are playing the lower RP version, we are getting enough RP to still buy some tanks. The tank losses are very low, and infantry are playing a Major role. :cool-smil
I will update this AAR after each operation and often during.

The screenshots attached to this post are the "Campaign Debrief Screen" after the 1st 3 operations (ROTRvR03.jpg) and the "Operation Debrief Screen", (X31after4days.jpg) after 4 days of the 4th operation.

This upate of the "Reich on the Rocks" campaign verses Stuart Rhue (a.k.a. Elite tanks, or, Rhuey).

The battle screenshot is of day 5, Rhuey only held this map on day 4 by sneaking a Recon team through my lines to capture the "swamp" VL in the last minute! The swamp VL is getting absolutely hammered by mortars and IG fire.

We are coming up to day 11 and am about to start last map (I am ahead of schedule). The second screenshot shows the operation debrief screen at this point.

This is a further update of the "Reich on the Rocks" campaign verses Stuart Rhue (a.k.a. Elite tanks), without H2H plugin.

The 1st screenshot (ROTRvR04) is of the Campaign Debrief screen at the end of the 4th operation.
The 2nd screenshot (ROTRvR04.02) is of the Operation Debrief screen in the 5th OP after 2 days.
The 3rd screenshot (ROTRvR04.02map) is of the map screen after 2 days.

The Russians lost an IS-2 to a panzerfaust near the VL on the road to Grabnowola.
An OT-34 was destroyed in combat near the road to Warsaw by a 88Pak/15cmFH combination.
Also a 152mmFG to mortar fire.
The Germans lost a 15cmFH to mortar fire also.
The VL at the bottom of the map (to Grabnowola) has changed hands 4 times!

Master Seargeant Diller had a good day in his debut battle, in combat on the road to Warsaw, see 4th screenshot (ROTRvR04.02Diller).

Three more days of vicious combat have gone down. The Germans have lost a further 40 dead, 11 wounded and 2 halftracks.
The Soviets finally took the 1st map on day 4 and made an attack on map 2, at a cost of a further 53 dead, 41 wounded, 6 prisoners, losing another 3 tanks and 2 guns.
The 1st screenshot (ROTRvR04.05) is of the Operation Debrief screen, of OP-5, after 5 days
Day3
The 2 surviving German guns and heavy mortar were rested for both days 3 and 4, to be saved for the next map. On day 3 Russians charged across the road to Grabnowla toward Hill 195 wiping out an MG42 team on the face.
3 Soviet infantry teams were decimated taking the hill. Soviet Infantry, skirting the NE end of Hill 195, started moving down the road to Warka.
My SdKfz251/2 was immoblised my mortar fire as I fired on the both pincers of the Russian infantry (I got 3.5 kills and my 4th Iron Cross 1st Class to go with the Knight's Cross I won charging a Kommand Panther across map 3 of the previous operation, see last pic for medals).
The OT34 supporting them was immobilised on top of the hill by an Ersatz team's panzerfaust which hid just over the crest.
The OT34 destroyed my SdKfz251/2 ending my killing spree.
Soviet infantry moving down the road to Warka were put under pressure by 2 Esatz squads and MG fire from the Warsaw road area (6 of them surrendered).
A late attack was made on the Warsaw road area by an OT34 and infantry, the OT34 was destryed by panzerfausts.
Day 4
Token resistance was given. In a Kommand team, I got 2 more kills with an assaultMG34. The Soviets took the map.
Day 5
The 150sFH was ugraded to an 88PaK, the 12cm Mortar, to a 150sFH and the 5cm mortar, to 12cm. My unit was upgraded to a SdKfz250/7.
The rest were 3 Kommand teams and MG teams.
The Russians attacked down the flanks with infantry and 2 OT34s, both were destroyed, 1 by one of the 88s, the other by the 150sFH.
An IS2 was spotted in their rear firing on and destroying the 150sFH.
One of 2 152mmFGs was destroyed by motar fire.

"Reich on the Rocks" Campaign; Elite Tanks vs ArmeeGruppeSud
Days 6
The Russians again tried to move mainly down the flanks. They had some success on the south finally taking Basinov. The Russians lost a lot of heavy equipment today, 3 tanks, including an IS-2, 2 guns and 2 120mm mortars, 6 dead, 11 wounded and 6 surrenderred. German losses were 8 dead and 3 wounded.
DAY 7
Todays battle was a bloody seesaw!
See pic 1 (ROTRvR04.07bds) for Battle debrief Screen.
Soviet Infantry, heavily supported by mortars and big guns, advanced on all fronts. Soviets flanking attacks through the woods were driven back on the roads to Studzianki and Magnuszew by triangulated MG fire. Soviet Infantry succeeded in capturing Trzebian and Debawola after they had been pounded severely only to find them abandoned. The German defense had been set deeper. The Soviet infantry were repelled from Celinow by an Ersatz team heavily supported by MG and mortar fire. The Soviet infantry that had captured Trzebian and Debawola had suffered heavily gaining those positions and continued to be saturated in MG fire until they were all killed wounded or fled. The MG42 on the road to Magnuszew moved foward recapturing Trzebian and an MG34 team from the cemetary recaptured Debawola.
See pic2 (ROTRvR04.07map) for map after day 7 (includes VL names).
An ISU152 was seen in the woods on the eastern hill. The 88 near the road to Studzianki fired at it every now and then (so as not to give itself away) and finally knocked it out after nearly a dozen shots at 497m. The 88 was destroyed by gun and mortar fire shortly after.
Day 8
Today I rested all the heavy support teams to for the next map. The roads to Studzianki and Magnuszew were only defended by 1 sniper each. The rest of the defenders withdrew to a perimeter aound Lekawick.
The Soviets occupied 5 VLs with little resistance (bar the snipers). Soviets infantry started moving through Celinow. They were met by heavy fire from the Lekawick area. A T34/42 from Businow and a ISU from Bozowka headed for Celinow to support their infantry. They pounded the German positions. But it was too late, the Soviet infantry were all but routed. So both tanks moved down the road toward Lekawick. An Ersatz team immobilised the T34. Both AFVs were destroyed before passing the silos by panzerschreck fire.
The siege of Lekawick has begun!

SEIGE of LEKAWICK

ROTRvR, OP-5, DAY-9
An 88, and 120cm mortar werre again rested.
The German infantry were deployed around the outskirts of Lekawick in shellholes, as the buildings are deathtraps being obvious targets for the soviet heavy guns. Only an ATR team was hid in the silos for observation.
2 soviet guns were spotted and destroyed by mortar fire. The Sdkfz mortar carrier itself was destroyed by gunfire.
An SU152 supported the Russian infantry assaulting lekawick from Celinow. In the last 2 minutes, the SU152, out of ammo, charged into Lekawick from the south and parked on the VL right next to the Ersatz team holding it. A Kommand team moved in as the Panzerschreck got into position to fire. They knocked out the SU152, time ran out. Lekawick was still ours!!!
The Panzerleid was sung in Lekawick that night.
German losses; 9 dead 16 wounded, 1 prisoner, 1 gun and 1 halftrtack
Russian losses: 11 dead 17 wounded, 3 prisoner, 2 guns and 1 tank

ROTRvR, OP-5, DAY-10
Both 88s, the 12cm mortar, an MG42 and Recon team were rested.
A very minimal defense was deployed, mostly Ersatz and MGs.
The Soviets (Mr Rhue) absolutely pounded Lekawick today with mortars and heavy guns.
Soviet infantry infiltrated throught the woods from the south but were met by MG fire from the field south of Lekawick.
Lekawick finally fell!!! The sound of Russians celebrating with the Poles was heard in Lekawick that night.
There were only 3 survivors that escaped to the next defensive sector.
German losses; 7 dead 8 wounded, 6 prisoners.
Russian losses: 7 dead 3 wounded.

DAY 11
The pic ROTRvR04.11_RS shows how I spent my 140RP for day 11.
ROTRvR04.10map.jpg shows the new map with VL names marked before day 11 commences.
The Soviet attack was concentrated along the northen flank. Infantry supported by a JS2 crossed the hill after heavy losses from mortar and MG fire called in by the snipers defending the woods.
The JS2 got past the Panzerschreck put on the hill to stop such a move.
MG fire from the Kommand team on the hill in top left corner (beside an 88) stopped Soviet infantry from capturing the bridge, but were themselves wiped out by the JS2.
The Mill was the only VL captured today. After the MG42 on the hill was wiped out, the remnants of Soviet infantry occupied it.
The pic ROTRvR04.11map.jpg shows the situation after DAY 11.
A sniper 100m west of the "Copse" held back the southern movement of Soviet infantry with supprt from the sMG34 on the hill below the Stone Bridge.
German losses; 8 dead 6 wounded.
Russian losses: 15 dead 7 wounded.
ROTRvR04.11map.jpg shows the map after day 11

DAY 12
The Wood Bridge VL changed hands 3 times today. It was originally taken by a JS2 that came in ahead of the russian infantry. The JS2 was fired on by both 88s and destroyed. The Soviet infantry were decimated and the Wood bridge was retaken. The germans shifted their counterattack toward the north bridge leaving the wood bridge open. Again the Soviets were denied the northen bridge. Sniper and MG fire held the Soviets in the south again also.
German losses; 12 dead 10 wounded, 1 88gun and 1 halftrack.
Russian losses: 29 dead 12 wounded, 1 gun and 1 tank.
ROTRvR04.12map.jpg shows the map after day 12.

DAY 13
The heavy equipment was again rested. Day 13 started out in a massive firefight between Soviet Infantry around the Wood Bridge VL and German conscripts with MG fire in support. Map 3 finally fell to the Russians within 10 minutes (20 min battles).
German losses; 10 dead 7 wounded, 8 prisoners.
Russian losses: 12 dead 12 wounded, and 2 guns (destroyed by mortar fire).
Now there are only 2 days remaining for Elite Tanks to capture 2 maps. I'll drink to that!!

Day 14
With Little hope of winning this OP, the Soviets made meagre advances against the deep set German defenses. Only the "Swamp" VL was taken.
German losses; 6 dead 3 wounded, and 2 guns
Russian losses: 7 dead 11 wounded.
Day 15
The "Rhuemeister" did not make a serious attempt to capture the map today, rather he re-equipped for the next defensice operation. In fact, German units recaptured the Swamp VL! With the Soviets not even capturing the 4th map, I was awarded a "Major Victory", but at great cost, see Operation debrief screen, Pic 4 (ROTRvR04.15ods)
German losses; 4 dead no wounded, 1 prisoner
Russian losses: 4 dead 10 wounded.

As you can see by the Campaign Screen, Pic4 (ROTRvR05), I now have a 5 point lead over Stuart Rhue (A.K.A. "Elite Tanks"). This is not as good as it may seem. He was leading me in 13/3!!! near the halfway mark of a 16 OP Campaign and only won by 1 point in the finsh! So it is early days yet in this epic struggle. The Soviets finish this campaign with 3 crushing attacking operations in a row!

the 6th operation

Day 1
I had a full roster and lots of money to start the counter attack. I upgraded both snipers to Kommand teams
The Ersatz were upgraded to molotov squads.
I bought a Kommand Panther (my only Tank)
In the openning minute of the battle 2 of my big guns were knocked out (ouch!). The infantry captured Mariampol, but were driven back in their flanking assault on Gabnowola.
The Kommand Panther drove straight through the market and captured the Post office before turning toward Mariampol which was being counterattacked.
The Kommand Panther assaulted the Russian infantry who had recaptured Mariampol and would have recaptured it but for being blown away by an 85mmAA stationed near the road to Studzianki.
Day2
A Tiger I and a Brumbär were added today
Today we drove down the flanks clearing both Mariampol and Grabnowola.
Last minute assaults on the last two remaining VLs were driven back by stiff resistance. .
Day3
The Soviets rested all their heavy equipment and left a token defense force which was wiped out.

The battle for map 2

Day 4
Rested several units units. a Luftfuhrergruppe, Pioniere and Sturmgruppe spearheaded an attack on the road to Michalow. They were supported by a Brumbar whick took out a 152mm and 100mmBiS and an sMG34 on Hill 204. Another BiS knocked out the Brumbar sth of Hill204 and a Kommand Panther that supported Infantry coming around the nth of 204.

Day 5
Hill 193 was captured uncontested, but a Russian MG on the next rise held any further advance on the north flank. Greater resistance were met at the ford, Hill208 and especially the swamp VL which fell after much shelling. Strong Soviet resistance dashed any hope of taking the road to Studzianki.
The King Tiger started behind 204 and moved too late to clinch the map
Day 6
The soviets sat back behind Hill 208. The Pz VI-B and a 150FH were in the woods on the road to Michalow. The Kommand PzIV-H, 3 infantry teams and and the Brumbar were in the Swamp area and . A soviet gun behind 208 was destroyed by mortar fire, and a 2nd near the road to Studzianki was knocked out by the Kommand PzIV-H with mortar support. A T34/85 was spotted and engaged by the Kommand PzIV-H but was knocked out by the Pz.VI-B charging over the top of Hill 208.
The Soviet forces were obliterated! Next map please

The 3 days to take the 2nd map cost:
German: 34 dead 31 wounded, 1 prisoner, 2 AFVs, 1 Halftrack & 1 gun.
Russian: 24 dead 28 wounded, 6 prisoners, 1 AFV and 3 guns.

DAY 7
The main thrust was launched along the top of the map. The King Tiger with an FJ Pioniere and Sturmgruppe with my SdKfz 250/7 kommand car following about 80m behind. No resistance was met till the top of the ridge where 2 Sapernaya and a command team wiped out all the infantry. The Tiger could not move foward until the russian were finished off by fire from a 15cmFH.
The middle bridge changed hands twice and a team got thru to capture the mill. The PzVI-B pressed on thru the woods mopping up routed russian. Fire from a 100mmBiS forced the Tiger to turn its front armour toward the gun while my halftrack charged behind the Tiger to capture the VL in the top right corner seconds before time.
see 1st pic (ROTRvR05.07bds.jpg) for battle debrief screen.
see 2nd pic ROTRvR05.07map.jpg for map after battle

DAY 8
Was spent mostly mopping up dark patches. Ground was openned up to get good postion to take map on the next day A team made some ground down the bottom.

DAY 9
Four spearheads from the NE corner, the mill and both bridges made their way towards Studzianki and the copse. Studzianki fell.
The King Tiger made a last minute charge on the heavily defended copse but was immobilised and became the only German tank captured this campaign.

DAY10
The copse finally fell after a bloodbath. I had to charge my halftrack to the copse VL to personally support my troops as my only tank a PzIV-H had been immobilised by a bazooka.
It took 4 days to capture this map, this has put me 1 day behind.
The cost for this map:
German: 93 dead 74 wounded, 1 prisoner, 4 guns, 1 tank destoyed 1 captured
Russian: 75 dead 95 wounded, 6 prisoner, 5 guns

DAY 11
Being a day behind I needed to make good ground today. I attacked in force up both flanks thru the woods. Lieutenant Langagke's Panther Kommand tank supported the northern thrust which captured Trzebien and Debawola.
The southern flank included a Kommand team, Pioniere, a Sturmgruppe and supported by a Wespe. They captured Basinow and Bozowka.
One southern flank squad turned north and captured Celinow.
The southern Kommand team turned north from Bazowka and headed for the last VL on the wooded hill. Only a gun crew and time saved the Soviets from losing this map in 1 day!
This days spectacular success was aided by the two soviet guns being spotted immediatly and subsequently destroyed by the wespe and mortar fire, also assisted by numerous Soviet counterattacks which weakenned their defense.

DAY 12
More vicious fighting, all attempts to take the wooded hill resulted in heavy losses. The woods were packed with flamethrowers and bazookas. A Kommand tank was immobilsed within 20 metres of the VL. There were more soviet attacks to take Lekawick.

DAY 13
The Soviets counterattacked viciously with massed infantry at Trzebien and Debawola and captured the latter after wiping out the MG34 team that defended it..Trzebien was better defended and butchered the Soviets there.
The sapernaya teams on the wooded hill were hammered by 150mmFHs and mortars and the VL fell at heavy cost. There was neither time or resouces to retake Debawola so Elite Tanks stole another day out of this map K\n

DAY 14
The Soviet resistance on this map was finally crushed.
The cost for this map:
German: 76 dead 64 wounded, 1 prisoner, 1 gun, 1 AFV destoyed, 1 AFV damaged
Russian: 74 dead 75 wounded, 6 prisoners, 6 guns, 1 captured

DAY 15
There was little hope of taking this map in one day. An attack down the road to warsaw led by 1st Lieutenant Langagke's Tiger failed to capture the Post Office. Teams that fought their way through the woods in the south got within metres of the Pontoon Bridge VL. Another squad infiltrated south of the Post Office and got within 15 metres of the Magnuszew VL. No Russian held VLs were taken, only the road to Grabnowola VL was aquired.

The operation ended as a Major Victory for Elite Tanks.
My Campaign lead has dwindled from 6/1 to 6/3.

Operation stats:
German: 272 dead 225 wounded, 10 prisoners, 10 guns, 3 halftracks, 5 AFVs destoyed, 2 AFVs damaged, 1 AFV captured
Russian: 231 dead 251 wounded, 21 prisoners, 19 guns, 1 gun captured, 1 AFV destoyed,

The campaign operations we are playing are the default Campaigns and Operations that come with the "Der Ost Front" cc3 mod. They are designed for single player campaigns verses the PC's AI.

There is a H2H plugin for DOF which has more RP for those who want to play against other people with plenty of tanks.

All the other H2H campaigns I have plyed have been with the H2H RP versions.
This is my 1st H2H campaign using DOF's default PC_AI campaign operations.
Infantry play a greater role like this. After 6 operations which all went down to the 15th day except one, there have only been 55 AFVs detroyed!

There has been 88 soldiers killed and wounded for every tank destroyed in this campaign. In all the other H2H campaigns I have played the infantry/tank ratio has varied from 22/1 to 50/1.
