Default A freakin' classic

The only game that was able to give me that same type of fix, and eventually replace, ASL.

I remember getting a press release on several Microsoft Games when they first started getting into games. One was described as a game where you could take your stone age tribe and make decisions and bring it into modern times....if you survive. Another was listed as some WWII game that immediately caught my interest.

The first game ended up being Age of Empires and the Second of course was Close Combat. I got my copies free and to this day I think that Close Combat is the better game.

When playing Germans in Close Combat I loved setting my MG-42's on the back end of a building and when an allied squad would enter it would fire through the wooden walls and hose them down!

Awsome game.

Gorgeous game but primitive graphics put me off. Can understand the pull as the gameplay was/is outstanding. CC2 did the bizz for me (gave me both).

Coming from tabletopgames cosims and recently steel panthers, I was suspicious, turning the ugly MS-box in my hands and starring at the tiny pictures. When I bargained it and played some rounds, I thought: Wow, quite impressive, realistic real time games can work, at least! It was fun for some time and the handbook was a nice read. It started to catch dust, when I stepped over CC2. After I while I got internet and one day typed "Close Combat" at Alta Vista. It still catches dust but it begins a nice row of legendary series in my shelves.

I always wonder, if the tiny soldier sprites could be exchange with the one of CC3-5.

Hey Brother! How's it going? Good to see you still kicking it.

I agree it would be nice just to see an updated Close Combat. The little soldier pixels are hard to go back to after CC2.

Yo mate, just sticking in the same ol´swampy trench!

Of course, CC2 sprites are better, but as a nitpicker what I´m they´re too big when standing next to a Mark IV!

cheers

nope - this is still the first that started a dynasty LOL. Baghdad is a mod of CC - new weapons systems do make it more interesting. Somehow "fun" seems wrong. keep looking at the new versions - this game keeps getting better with new information - a tribute to the original desgners...
