Exclamation DOF - true meaning!

I would like to congratulate ArmeeGruppeSud on his new DOF mod. The first release seem to be suffering from a few problems and bugs, which is unfortunate, but for me seeing this mod out is something very important...

Over the years I have tried out most mods out there for CCIII-V, and yet I always go back to Real Red. There just seems to be something about the 'feel' of the eastern front, about fighting house to house in Stalingrad, attacking with the SS in the muddy/snowy terrain of Kharkov, or defending against hordes of Russian soldiers with an MG42 in those late war maps like City. Maybe because the fighting on the Russian front had to it an underlying sense of totality, maybe it's the huge scale of the struggle and the diversity of terrain and equipment, or simply because I'm an Eastern Front fanatic.

Reading the forums over the last couple of weeks I was getting a feeling some people were getting the wrong idea of what DOF was trying to do. It seems many people were unimpressed because really 'not much was changed' compared to RealRed. Unlike most mods DOF did not feature a full revamp of the game with completely different units, graphics, battles, etc. Sure a 'new' feel to the game is great, but I for one always go back to the Eastern front, and that means I'm playing RealRed. But the fact is that it hasn't been updated for years, and DOF did just that; it made an already great mod even better. It's all about integrating the best stuff the CC community created, fixing up and polishing the fine details...like detailed tank graphics, new sounds, a new more historically accurate Grand campaign with new maps. Making great things better takes a lot of time, effort, and focus. So how about a loud cheer and 2 thumbs up for ArmeeGruppeSud and his DOF mod

ps: On another note, there is A LOT of mod stuff out there now for CC and we should not be afraid to use and share work. Making a mod does not have to mean making EVERYTHING new yourself. Like in DOF, sometimes the best and most productive method is going through and picking the best of the already existing work and then improving it yourself if you need to (because chances are some crazy modder has already spent 50hrs making that perfect tank graphic ).

Extremely wll written post.

I couldnt agree more that modding doesnt have to be revamping everything from head to toe. a subtle change is a few thingas that arent noticed by the eye can make the game that much more enjoyable.

Remember that while eye candy is great, if the coding (The guts of it) are weak, the playability goes down the tubes very quickly.

DOF is a really good peice of work, Id reccomend it for anyone who is interested in playing or is an avid CC3 player.

The GC is perhaps the best one for a CC3 game out there.

Thankyou for your votes of confidence guys.
You have obviously played DOF enough to appreciate the depth of research, testing, perfectionism and fine adjustments that make DOF a true enthusiasts game.
For example, in DOF Campaign Operations, the Requisition Points decrease toward the end of the Operations to help avoid the Requisition Point blowouts that occur when a defending side is attacking in the next OP (especially if the side attacking in the last OP, now defending, lost very little on the last day of the previous OP).
In DOF Campaign Statistics, the tank/gun losses ratio is much more true to historical losses ratios (lots more guns). The Heavy Guns (152, 150, 128, 122, 107 and 105), which can do some major damage, as well as AT guns, are very vulnerable to mortar fire. The fact that nearly all towed carriage based weapons have the same sound as their AFV counterparts but with a recoil sound added, helps you identify both calibre and mounting. So when you spot its muzzle blast, you know what to do.
The "Grand Campaign" is not the best DOF Campaign to play. All the other CC3 Campaigns have been DOFified heavily, with many great new operations using many new Southern_land maps. "Revenge of the Bear" is my favorite DOF Campaign.
My Apologies about the maps. I am sure they will be up on the CSO site soon. Its just that the few guys running CSO are totally overworked.
I applaud them for the site being my premier (only) CC3 shopping mall.
DOF would never have existed, if CSO didn't!

Hi CSO_Sbufkle
What about the poor battlers with dialup? It would be good to see those last few Southern Land maps in the "maps by Mod" DOF section as well as the CC3 maps A-Z sections. I have come across a few players who were short only one or a few maps.

Hi

I tried DOF and however I had to install it manually, I need to say good job was done.
I think Grand campaign against AI is well prepared:
- good maps were selected
- locations of VLs are logical
- operations are 15 days long.

Great looking mod!!!

I had a minor problem at first deleting the .zip extension but after downloading an extension manager that was solved too and I have to say: I'm very impressed
The maps for the GC are great and the game still has the same "feeling" as Real Red which is the mod I most times play.
Also cool is that all operations consist of 5 maps (as far as I've seen) and I haven't found any real stupid point allocations yet
The only thing that is a minor downside of this mod is that it won't let me combine it with the snakesound plugin which has nicer sounds in my opinion.

But for all the other things: Graphics/maps/operations/units to pick and the GC its by far the mod I like best (together with golden oldie RR)

Congrats on a job well done

Thankyou for your feedback BR_Tribaltank_F. Everyone has different tastes as far as soundmods go.
Personally, I am happy with the DOF sounds (though I have added 8 different sounds to my version of DOF since it was released). I have downloaded every CC3 and CC5 soundmod and have used some of their sounds that fitted my scheme.
Use CC3Soundedit to modify your DOF sound.sfx and play with your own custom DOF sound.
AGS

P.S. You also may need to download Konrad's excellent "SFXPack" program to unpack the sounds you want. http://www.closecombat.org/CSO/modul...getit&lid=3161
