With
this map there are three main dominating features. The hills,
the buildings, & finally the next step, the trees.
We
will now work with a VERY COOL part of Paint Shop, TUBES.
A
tube is a series of individual objects that are in a little
package & randomly throw out any of its contained images.
This is ideal in mapping for trees, bushes, rocks & a bunch
of other things.
You
have your map open. Set it to view 1:1, 100% scaled. Look over
your initial drawing you made. the next step requires alot of
freehand, so get a general feel of how you want these little
forests to look like.
Make
a new layer called 'Tree Shadows', place this layer just under
the 'Hills' layer, so this new layer is the 2nd to top layer
on your map file

Now
go to left hand tool bar. Go near the bottom & look for
an icon that looks like an ink well with pen.

This
baby is the 'tubes' tool, its a good one!
Open
Tool Option Window. Looks like this, although your default tube
is probably different.

Like
we did in choosing brushes, hit the drop down to right of graphic
to select our tube we will use to paint tree shadows.

Select,
"Alt Tree Shadows".

You'll
notice there's a button for scale & step. These are hand
to manipulate the tube graphic, in this case we don't need it.
Now
quite simply, you click one by one these tree shadows onto your
map where you want a tree. A few things to remember.
- Remember
you'll be placing the tree on the top left of the shadow.
- Try
not to overlap the shadows or they will appear darker where
they meet, in real life, that doesn't happen.
-
Don't place tree shadows on the dark side of the hills,
because all objects are considered in the shadow of the
hill already!
- Make
open areas sometimes so troops can move freely.
- There
aren't likely to be too many trees where buildings were
put.
- Forests
aren't spread out evenly, there are denser areas & sparse
areas.
So
have fun& pop these on!

Now,
were going to add more tubes. But first me must move to the
next step.
