   MAKING A MAP: Path/Dirt

There's alot of ways to make roads & paths. Roads in fact are not something I will get into, there's good tutorials about that already & so many different ways to do it, its a matter of preference. For our map we are working on, well only do a path.

Essentially this is like the previous section 'Additional Textures' with a tweak. I think its important to make them 2 sections however.

Make a new layer called 'Dirt/Path'. Transparency 75%. Place this layer above 'Rocky Base' & 'Ground2 Base'

Select paint brush, same brush we have used till now, set size to 50.

In styles select 'dodamground5', scale 80.

In styles select 'dodamground5', scale 80.

Now go to the top left hand side of your map. Were going to make a path the the town. Make a slightly winding line to it like this:

Do the same for anywhere else you want a path to lead to the town.

Do paths from the town to the towers.

Make some 'offshoot' paths. Don't be shy to paint over the other textures.

Make your brush size bigger, say 150. Now paint in the town area itself. THINK, people walk around here, wear the ground out. Random brushing, leave some green in some spots.

Adjust brush size to 50.

As you did with the ground2 & rock textures in the last section, go along the paths you made & the town ground & randomly touch up the patches to make them more life like. You don't need to do this as much as the rock & ground2 layer.

Like this:

Now along the top tools bar, got to 'effects'

Now select, 3D Effects / Inner bevel

Now select, 3D Effects / Inner bevel, you will see this:

Note the settings. USE THESE SETTINGS. Once set up, hit 'OK'

Now you'll see there's an inner bevel on the dirt path, looks worn into ground, like it should!
