When
we added tree shadows we used tubes, its easy. The tubes well
use on this page REALLY give a map good polish & help make
it look finished.
Make
4 layers in the following order from top to bottom.
These
are to be placed under the building shadow layers & above
the Dirt/Path, Rocky Base & Ground2 Base layers.
- Bushes
- Dry
Bushes
- Rocks
- Reeds

Well
do the 'rocks' layer first. Set the layer to 'OVERLAY'

Select
tube tool in left column.
In
tool option screen pick 'rocks', scale 40.

Now
were going to randomly place rocks on the map. There a few rules
to follow when doing this.
- Not
alot of rocks will be on the paths or in the dirt in the
town area. These are cleared as they are high volume areas.
- Rocks
roll down hills, so are more abundant around the base perimeters
of hills.
- Be
random! Some areas have more rocks, some few!
Please
look at some of the rock work I did:

Very
subtle eh? There are a bunch on bottom of parts of the hill,
a couple ont he path & on the other areas scattered randomly.
Do the whole map like this, DONT overdo it.
Now
select the 'reeds' layer. Set the transparency to 80%

Now
select the 'reeds' in the tube tool option window. Scale 40,
step 18.

Reeds
are a good subtle addition to a map, they resemble 'mossy' areas
when used on land & scaled small.
Using
that word 'random' paint some narrow lines of these reeds along
side left hand lighter side of the hills. Not all across the
entire left side, just a few spots. Do it till you like what
you see.

Select
'dry bushes' layer.
Select
'dry bushes' tube, 100 scale

Randomly
paint little groups of these on your map. The best places are
in or near busy areas, like in town (Since they are dry or dead,
its because of they are in busy place!) & in the foot of
the dark side of a hill. (Bush dies because of lack of alot
of sunshine) In 5 or 6 spots in other places ont he map I throw
a few of these in as well.

Now
select the 'bushes' layer.
Select
bushes tube, scale 100

Place
these bushes in groups where ever you want on the map. Near
the wooded areas is usually a good spot. Keep them off the paths.

Nice!
